What’s New For 2025 With The Dodge Durango

There is certainly no shortage of crossovers and SUVs on the market. In fact, the Jeep brand here at Benna Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (CDJR) consists entirely of crossovers and SUVs plus the Gladiator pickup. There are also plenty of 3-row crossovers from which to choose. However, if you are a muscle car fan looking for a powerful SUV, you look to THE muscle car brand, Dodge, and most specifically, the Dodge Durango. Dodge bolsters that reputation with the changes to the 2025 Durango, which is the subject of this Benna CDJR blog. The Durango enters the 2025 model year with GT, R/T, and SRT Hellcat trim levels, each with its own bespoke engine. Several special edition models will also be available, including the Durango R/T 20 th Anniversary and three special-edition versions of the Durango SRT Hellcat. Two Powertrains and One Monster The GT is the entry into the model line. It has the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, rated at up to 295 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. In RWD form, the Durango has an EPA estimated city/highway/combined mpg of 18 / 25 / 20. With all-wheel drive, the mpg is estimated at 17 / 24 / 20. One step up is the Durango R/T, which comes standard with a 5.7-liter HEMI producing a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine features cylinder deactivation, which seamlessly alternates between smooth, high fuel economy, four-cylinder mode, and V-8 mode when more power is needed. The 8-speed automatic is also matched to this engine, and both RWD and AWD versions have the same EPA mpg estimates of 14 / 22 / 17. Finally, there is the SRT Hellcat. Those familiar with Dodge or even just performance car nomenclature know that SRT Hellcat means this trim is powered by a 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V-8 engine. In this state of tune, it produces 710 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque. That is enough to move this 3-row SUV from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds and go on to reach the quarter mile in an NHRA-certified 11.5 seconds. It also has a top speed of 180 mpg. This is more than just a big V8 with a supercharger. High-performance features of this engine include: A dedicated cooling circuit for the charge air coolers integrated into the supercharger housing, including a pump, coolant reservoir, and heat exchanger, designed to keep air flowing into the engine cooler than 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Twin-screw rotors in the supercharger are set close to minimize air leakage and ensure maximum performance. An integrated electronic bypass valve regulates boost pressure to a maximum of 11.6 psi (80 kPa). The 2.38-liter supercharger has a drive ratio of 2.36:1 and a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm. A cast-iron engine block with water jackets between the cylinders for optimal cooling Forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces Specially tuned crankshaft damper burst tested to 13,000 pm High-strength, forged-alloy pistons Powder-forged connecting rods with high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like, carbon-coated piston pins Piston-cooling oil jets Heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads Sodium-cooled exhaust valves, hollow-stem intake valves, and steel-alloy heads that stand up to temperatures as high as 1,652 degrees Fahrenheit (900 degrees Celsius) Cold-air scoop in the lower front fascia helps feed the supercharger and the Hellcat engine’s 92-mm throttle body. Exhaust system tuned to deliver a throaty Dodge DNA sound TorqueFlite 8HP95 eight-speed automatic transmission includes steering-wheel-mounted paddles for manual-style shifting and has seven available Drive modes – Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Eco, and Valet. Muscular Styling Outside, the Durango wears its performance focus with distinctly muscular styling derived partly from the recent Charger model. The forward-leaning profile includes Dodge DNA design cues on the front, including slim LED low/high headlamps, LED daytime running lamp (DRL) signatures, an iconic crosshair, and a grille. Down the side is muscular surfacing, a rear spoiler, and a variety of wheel options. The dash is clearly driver-centered, with a center stack angled 6 degrees toward the driver. The 10.1-inch touchscreen is powered by the critically acclaimed Stellantis Uconnect 5 operating system with Durango-specific graphics. The SRT Hellcat features exclusive performance-themed graphics. 2025 Special Editions There will be four Durango Special Editions for 2025: R/T 20th Anniversary – Honoring 20 years of bringing back the HEMI engine, this special edition model includes: Black HEMI hood graphic “345” fender badging with Brass Monkey accents 20-by-10-inch Y-spoke forged lightweight Brass Monkey wheels SRT seats featuring distinctive Tupelo bronze-like stitching accents and “345” embroidered on seatbacks Black exterior badging The tow N Go package adds performance-tuned steering, adaptive damping suspension, Brembo brakes, active exhaust, and an 8,700 lb. towing capacity. CDJR Models Win Vincentric Best CPO Value Awards, Recognized for Low Ownership Cost

All of the models carried by Benna Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ®, and Ram are designed to provide value at purchase, throughout ownership, and when it is time for resale. Thus, we are happy to announce that the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ®, and Ram brands all appear in the 12th annual Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards. The awards highlight vehicles that retain their value in the used vehicle market. Vincentric is a data analysis firm for the automotive industry.  Each year, they perform a cost of ownership analysis at the model level, from which comes the Vincentric Best CPO Value in America™ awards. Vincentric measures the cost of ownership using eight different cost factors: Depreciation Fees & taxes Financing Fuel Insurance Maintenance Opportunity cost Repairs Based on their proprietary statistical model, winners are determined by evaluating which vehicles had lower-than-expected ownership costs, given their market segment and price. Each vehicle was evaluated in all 50 states plus Washington, DC, using a range of annual mileage intervals and insurance profiles. Best CPO Value awards The Jeep Wagoneer was awarded for having the Best CPO Value in America in the  Luxury Large SUV category.  Contributing factors include: Outperformed 9 Competitor Models 6.1% below expected ownership costs For the second time, the Chrysler Voyager won the award for the Best CPO Value in America in the minivan category.  Its contributing factors include: 3.8% below expected ownership costs Lowest Total Cost of Ownership in its Class Outperformed 4 Competitor Models "We know consumers consider many factors when purchasing a vehicle, not just the initial cost, but also the overall cost to own, operate, and drive,” said Matt Thompson, Head of U.S. Retail Sales. “These awards are significant because they highlight a range of Stellantis vehicles that offer long-term value retention and peace of mind, from minivans to sedans, to commercial vans and full-size SUVs." Lowest Ownership Cost Recognition With their data on ownership costs, Vincentric also recognizes models that have the lowest in their respective categories. As a result, they recognized these five models for having the lowest total cost of ownership in their class: Chrysler 300 Sedan Ownership costs over $1,856 lower than the nearest competitor Outperformed two competitor models Chrysler Voyager minivan Ownership costs over $1,673 lower than the nearest competitor Outperformed four competitor models Dodge Durango SUV Ownership costs over $1,673 lower than the nearest competitor Outperformed four competitor models Ram ProMaster City Passenger Van Ownership costs over $1,186 lower than the nearest competitor Outperformed seven competitor models Ram ProMaster City Commercial Van Ownership costs over $2,083 lower than the nearest competitor Outperformed two competitor models While it is relatively easy to compare vehicle prices when shopping, comparing the overall cost of ownership is more challenging.  Consequently, Vincentric's work and its awards are valuable tools for anyone looking for a new or used vehicle. We invite you to check out all the Vincentric’s winners, at Benna CDJR.

Dodge Reveals 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead Special Edition

For more than 20 years, the Hemi engine has been a modern symbol of brute force and the ultimate expression of freedom units on four wheels. Cue the latest freedom SUV from Dodge, the Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead Special Edition, which follows in the tire tracks of the Durango SRT Hellcat Silver Bullet and R/T 20 th Anniversary. A Special One-Off Experience This new Dodge borrows its name from the Hammerhead Grey Laguna leather interior that is contrasted by the dark blue Night Moves exterior paint. Other touches unique to the Hammerhead include a Satin Black-painted hood, Satin Carbon 20-inch wheels, black six-piston Brembo performance brakes, sepia SRT Hellcat logos that are embroidered on the seats, a premium-wrapped instrument panel, forged carbon fiber with light black chrome interior accenting, a leather and suede steering wheel with silver and sepia contrast stitching, as well as the same color stitching throughout, and a suede headliner. A Word from Dodge “The new Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead continues the celebration of a potent combination: the legendary HEMI engine and the Dodge brand’s three-row performance SUV,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge Brand CEO. “Dodge is America’s performance brand, and we plan to continue to celebrate that legacy at every turn.” Engine and Performance Powering the Hellcat Hammerhead is the infamous 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat V8 that produces 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque that drives all four wheels all the time via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Dodge says the Hemi Hellcat engine will propel the new Durango Hellcat Hammerhead to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is so fast that once it reaches the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds, the Durango might take off if it had wings since its top speed is 180 mph. The base MSRP of this awesomeness is $113,720, not including destination and handling charges. The Dodge brand continues to fuel horsepower-hungry HEMI® lovers with the introduction of a new special-edition model of the most powerful SUV ever: the 710-horsepower 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Hammerhead. Special Driving Modes Giving drivers the most use out of their limited-edition Durango is the ability to switch between seven different driving modes: Auto Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Eco, and Valet. With SRT Performance Pages, users can see the vehicle’s performance, such as various timers, g-force meters, gauges, engine, and dyno readouts. There are even options to use launch control and have shift lights to know when to use the wheel-mounted paddles. Standard Features and Safety Standard on the Durango Hellcat Hammerhead is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, a 19-speaker premium Harman Kardon sound system with an 825-watt amplifier, and an array of safety equipment that includes Blind-spot Monitoring with Trailer Detect, Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and much more. MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, held on August 10, 2024, featured the worldwide debut of the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona, the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car, led by the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack.

New Dodge Charger Daytona Debuts at Roadkill Nights

The latest all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona debuted to the public at the 2024 MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge during the world-famous Woodward Dream Cruise. The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona features two models: the Scat Pack with 670 horsepower and the R/T with 496 horsepower. The Daytona Scat Pack can rip the pavement into submission on its way to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The History of the Woodward Dream Cruise With its roots dating back to 1848, the Woodward Dream Cruise has always occurred on the legendary Woodward Avenue that spans from Ferndale to Pontiac, Michigan. Even though there weren’t cars back in the mid-1800s, there were buggies and carriages that people used to race along the wide streets, which saw even more widespread racing action starting in 1958. These days, old and new Dodge cars and trucks street race for money and bragging rights. A Special EV Exhaust System As the next generation of the Charger, the Scat Pack and R/T will have a unique and proprietary Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system that will give the Charger EV a glorious and unmistakable sound that can make anyone worried about a muscle car with an electric motor sold on the way of the future. Engine Options This is obviously the first time the Dodge Charger has ever been electrified. However, multiple engines will power the new car, including the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 Hurricane High Output engine called the Sixpack H.O., which will develop 550 horsepower, or a Standard Output (S.O.) version of the Hurricane, which will produce 420 horsepower. All models will be built in the Windsor, Ontario, assembly plant. Special Driving Modes Scat Pack models will receive various modes, allowing owners to customize their driving experience on the fly. A Drift mode will enable drivers to change between three different slip angles: a Donut mode, Line Lock, Launch Control, and Race Prep. Race Prep is meant for drag or track racing and pre-warms the battery to give optimal performance for a period of time. Owners will also be able to use Performance Pages to access information with lap timers, g-meters, various gauges, and power information. At Krusen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we offer our customers some of the best prices and services around. With dozens of new and used vehicles to choose from, our excellent sales team and finance department will work hard to make sure you drive away happy. Our fantastic service department will take care of your new-to-you vehicle as if it were their own. We look forward to serving you soon.

More than 100 drag racers competed during Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge on August 10, 2024, with all racing action taking place inside M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, for the first time ever.

Motor Trend Presents Roadkill Powered by Dodge Attracts Massive Crowd

As this is being written in late August, the political campaigns are ramping up, and there is much discussion of crowd sizes, where attendance of 14 - 15K people is considered a successful event. Keep that in mind as Benna Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (CDJR) tells you about the ninth annual RoadKill Nights in Pontiac, Michigan. Sponsored by Dodge, the event attracted over 40,000 people on the first night and 50,000 across both nights. The event included the debut of the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona, which wowed the crowds with its Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system. Fans could avail themselves of Dodge Drift Rides and Dodge Hornet Rally Rides, as well as a chance to catch all the action in the $25,000 World Burnout Championship. However, the main event was undoubtedly drag racing, which attracted over 100 competitors. The Dodge Direct Connection Grudge Race was a particularly special part of that event. This involved seven drivers dropping the recently available Direct Connection Hurricrate engines in their build projects in a quest for ultimate Dodge bragging rights. The Hurricrates are stand-alone versions of the Hurricane turbocharged Inline-6 engines making 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, literally out of the box. The winner of the event was Morgan Evans, who dropped his Hurricrate into a 1987 Dodge D-150, which defeated the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon driven by Garrett Reed in the final round. “We worked so hard over the last two months, and I can’t believe we got here and we ended up winning. The truck worked incredibly, and I couldn’t have asked it to do better,” said Evans. The rest of the drag racing was split into Big Tire (over 275mm width) and the Small Tire (275mm width and under) categories, each of which saw competitors battle for bragging rights and cash prizes on the first-ever drag strip at M1 Concourse in Pontiac. “For nearly a decade, we've brought the ultimate car culture celebration to life at MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, and this year we introduced some thrilling firsts,” says Eric Schwab, MotorTrend Group's Group SVP, Head of Revenue, Operations, and Partnerships. “For the first time, drag racing took place inside the M1 Concourse, offering walkable pits and enhanced viewing areas that brought fans closer to the action than ever before. With these new experiences, along with the worldwide debut of the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona, we welcomed over 40,000 fans for an adrenaline-fueled weekend, proving once again that Roadkill Nights continues to set the bar for action-packed automotive excitement.” All in all, it was a fantastic celebration of horsepower, and it made clear that Dodge's phasing out of Its Hemi engines in no way ends its muscle. You can see that for yourself by visiting Benna CDJ R to see all the new Hurricane-powered models, plus the Hornet, which boasts the most power in its class.

Recognizing automakers' outstanding achievements in creating and maintaining brand attributes that earn the attention and enthusiasm of new-car buyers, Kelley Blue Book, a Cox Automotive company, announces the winners of the 2024 Consumer Choice Awards. Honda is the major winner in this year's Consumer Choice Awards, nearly sweeping all of the non-luxury categories and taking home more wins than any other automaker for 2024.

Ram and Dodge Take Home 2024 Kelley Blue Book Consumer Choice Awards

Benna Chrysler, Dodge Jeep Ram is thrilled to share that two of its esteemed brands, Ram and Dodge, have been honored with prestigious awards from Kelley Blue Book and its Consumer Choice Awards. Ram has been recognized as the Best Overall Truck Brand, while Dodge has been lauded as the Best Car Styling Brand for a non-luxury brand, an award it has won five times in the past six years. These accolades hold immense value as they are a testament to the exceptional quality and design of our vehicles, as acknowledged by the consumers themselves. The Kelley Blue Book Consumer Choice Awards are a true testament to the popularity and customer satisfaction of these two automotive brands. These awards are based on the data from their comprehensive Brand Watch study, which engages over 12,000 in-market new-vehicle shoppers annually through KBB.com. The study delves into the factors that drive purchase decisions, revealing brand and model familiarity and loyalty among new-car shoppers. This consumer-driven source makes these awards even more significant and meaningful. Ram: Best Overall Truck Brand The award comes at a good time for Ram as it prepares the launch of an extensively updated 2025 Ram 1500, which includes the debut of its 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine family. This model line is expected to surpass the performance of the brand’s previous V-8 offerings and includes a version to be rated at 540 horsepower. Other features to arrive with the 2025 truck include a 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and even an available 10.25-inch front passenger display, all using the latest Uconnect5 operating system. Other available features include a Head-up Display and the ability to use a smartphone as a key. Also on its way is the 2025 Ram 1500 REV full-size all-electric pickup, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2024. The truck, which intentionally resembles the conventional Ram 1500, is expected to have a standard 168 kilowatt-hour battery for an estimated range of 350 miles. Dual motors will produce 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque across all rpm. The truck will have a maximum payload capacity of 2,625 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. Expected for the following year is an available 229-kilowatt-hour battery for an estimated range of 500 miles. Dodge: Best Car Styling Dodge reclaims this award in the same year it says farewell to its Charger and Challenger muscle car lines. Those consumers will not be disappointed by the return of the all-new Charger Daytona, which will be the world’s first EV muscle car upon its arrival. The car will be available initially as a 2-door coupe and later as a 4-door sport sedan, both carrying overt muscle car lines from Dodge’s past while looking thoroughly modern. The Charger Daytona will be a multi-energy model lineup, and following the EV introduction, a gas-powered version of the same will feature the Hurricane engine lineup. The 4-door body style will arrive at about the same time as both EV and gas drivetrains. Ram and Dodge are both part of the Stellantis brand family, which includes Chrysler and Jeep, each with its own exciting models. You can see them all at the appropriately named Benna Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store.

Dodge Charger EV

The Dodge EV Muscle Lineup

The Dodge Charger is back and better than ever. Sadly, the V8s are gone, but in their place are some very intriguing motors that create a lot of muscle without much effort. You will be able to get the Charger in either two or four doors, in hatchback form, with an EV or a twin-turbo inline-6 in Standard Output (S.O.) or High Output (H.O.). Every model will come with all-wheel drive available. Once you read about the power outputs, you’ll understand why drivers are going to need it. The biggest news about the 2024 and 2025 Dodge Charger is the introduction of electric motors. The 2024 Charger Daytona will have 496 horsepower in R/T trim via a Stage 1 kit from Dodge Direct Connection and 670 horsepower with the Stage 2 kit Scat Pack. These kits will only be available for the first model year cars in 2024. Both cars have a 100.5 kWh battery with an estimated range of 317 miles for the R/T and 260 miles for the Scat Pack. Dodge says the Charger Daytona Scat Pack will reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. However, for 2025, when buying the R/T and Scat Pack, buyers must purchase the Direct Connection Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits. Without the kits, the power will be 456 horsepower for the R/T and 590 for the Scat Pack. “The electrified 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack delivers Charger Hellcat Redeye levels of performance and announces its presence through the world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, while Hurricane engine-powered Dodge Charger SIXPACK models will give the Brotherhood of Muscle a gas option that produces better horsepower and torque numbers than the outgoing 5.7- and 6.4-liter HEMI engines,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “The next generation of Dodge muscle has arrived.” The Daytona R/T will ride on 18-inch wheels, while the Scat Pack will have 21-inch wheels. Both models have fully independent suspension, and an optional Track Pack adds adaptive dampers. For 2024, both cars will have Brembo brakes with 16.1-inch rotors. To help set both the R/T and Scat Pack apart on the inside, they will have different seating surfaces and screen sizes. The R/T will feature a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, whereas the Scat Pack will have a 16-inch screen. However, the R/T can be optioned with the larger screen. Both cars will have a 12.3-inch center infotainment display. A premium 18-speaker Alpine system and an augmented reality head-up display will be available to project a large field of view with virtual image distance. Buyers looking to get into a Charger with a gas motor will have to wait until 2025. The 2025 Charger will be called the Sixpack and is available in S.O. (standard output) and H.O. (high output). The only engine will be the amazing 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 Hurricane that will produce 420 horsepower in S.O. and 550 horsepower in H.O. Dodge Charger Daytona EV models will also have unique drive modes, which include Drag, Track, Drift, and Donut. Drift mode allows drivers to choose between three different slip angles, with torque being biased to the rear axle, and the front axle will maintain the slip angle. Donut mode will allow the Charger to spin only the rear wheels without the traction control trying to limit you. Daytona models will also feature a patent-pending Fratzonic Chambered exhaust system. This system will incorporate two passive radiators that will create Hellcat levels of sound. However, you can use Stealth Mode to avoid exhaust sound. Side View of the 2024 Dodge Hornet

Dodge Hornet R/T Named To Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems for 2023

The brand-new Dodge Hornet R/T has recently debuted and is winning over the hearts of journalists and customers alike. In its first year on sale, it has already won a top award for its fantastic 1.3-liter engine. WardsAuto has named the 2024 Hornet R/T as a winner of their 2023 Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems award. Engine & Battery The Dodge Hornet R/T is powered by a plug-in hybrid electric engine (PHEV) with a 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine producing 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 90kW electric motor attached to the rear axle. With a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Hornet R/T can drive more than 30 miles on a single electric charge. The R/T also introduces a new technology called PowerShot performance that gives the Hornet a 30 horsepower boost while also delivering instant torque. Dodge says this takes 1.5 seconds off the regular 0-60 mph time. The system boosts the power and acceleration through 15-second bursts from the battery system and electric motor. What The Testers Say “This powertrain is a joy to drive in most situations, from punching up PowerShot on a launch to silent EV motoring on local errands,” said Bob Gritzinger, WardsAuto editor-in-chief and a Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems judge. “It’s quick when you want it, mellow when you’re just cruising.” Who Is WardsAuto? WardsAuto, the illustrious automotive trade magazine published since 1924, is best known for its Ward’s 10 Best Engines that started in 1994. Their experts test only new vehicles with a base price of less than $65,000. Testing occurs for two months per car, and then each is scored based on typical, everyday driving scenarios with zero instrumented testing. Wards looks at power, torque, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), among other things. The 10 Best Dodge Models of All Time (Part 5 of the Top 50 Dodge Series)

This is where the arguments start. Because where it is one thing to argue if a top 32nd rank vehicle belongs in the number 25 slot, it is another to decide the top ten models of any brand, much less one with a 123-year history. Benna CDJR didn’t determine the top 10. As with all previous versions of this series, the selections were made by the Autoevolution website. So, here we go with the top 10 Dodges of all time. 10. 1970 Challenger Hemi Though Dodge was busy in the 60s putting high-powered engines in smaller vehicles, they did not have a pony car competitor until 1970, five years after the launch of the Mustang and Barracuda. Though its body looked much like the 3rd generation Barracuda with which it shared a platform, the Challenger had a two-inch longer wheelbase (110”) and was positioned against the upper end of the pony car class such as the Cougar and Firebird. An astounding eight engines were offered, including two “Slant-6”s: and six V-8s. The most coveted is the 425-hp 426 Hemi. It wasn’t so much the cost of the engine but the cost to insure a Challenger with it that resulted in only 356 out of 77,000 Challengers sold being equipped with the legendary engine in its initial year. The rarest? Hemi convertibles, only 9 of which were made. The fun lasted through 1971, after which the high-performance V-8s were discontinued. The Challenger itself was discontinued after 1974. 9. 1966 Charger Hemi Let's start by saying that no matter how it was powered, the 1966 Charger may well be the most attractive design to wear a Dodge badge. Preceded by the 1965 Charger II show car, the production model actually looked better with the extraordinarily clean front styling due to retractable headlights that created a full-width grille echoed by full-width tail lights in the rear. The show car’s dramatic fastback roofline resulted in an absurdly long rear overhang, which was sensibly curtailed in the production car. The dash featured four prominent gauge pods, and the center console extended through the back to create 2nd-row bucket seats. Those seats also folded down to extend the cargo space, an uncommon feature at the time for a non-station wagon. The car was really more of a luxury fastback than a full-on muscle car, except that five V8 engines were on offer, including the mighty 440 Magnum and the legendary 425-hp 426 Hemi, of which just 468 units were sold in the first year. 8. 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye The Challenger and Charger of this generation share a platform, so when Dodge made news by putting the 707-hp Hellcat engine in the Challenger, dropping it in the Charger also probably wasn’t all that…well…Challenging. However, creating a 707-hp 4-door sedan was completely audacious, which is familiar ground for Dodge. In 2021 they stoked the fires, further taking the Challenger’s Redeye engine and creating the 797-hp Charger Redeye, which has easily become the most powerful Charger in history. 0 to 60 is reached in just 3.5 seconds, the quarter mile takes just 10.6, and it has a top speed of 203 mph. If a faster Charger is ever made from the factory, it won’t be gasoline powered. 7. 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Whatever the point was, Dodge had already proved it with the 2015 Challenger Hellcat, astounding the industry with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing 707 hp. The previous most powerful Challenger was quite competitive, producing 470 horsepower, so the Hellcat was a bit of a bump. And it instantly became the most powerful muscle car of all time. Neither Ford nor GM countered, so Dodge could have stopped there. But a supercharger could get another 90 horses out of the 6.2 V-8 and a total of 707 lb-ft of torque, so they put it into production just to beat their own record. Its performance figures are very similar to the similarly-powered Charger with a 10.8-second quarter mile and 203 mph top speed. 6. 2004 Ram SRT-10 We used the term “audacious” previously, but maybe we should have saved the term for this model. Because while this series has mentioned other Dodge sport trucks like the Lil' Red Express, the Rumble Bee, the Daytona, and the Power Wagon, none of them match the Ram SRT-10, which had the Viper V-10 under its tall scooped hood. Unlike the supercharged Challenger and Charger engine just discussed, the 8.3-liter Viper V-10 was normally aspirated, so its 500 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque don’t quite have the same eye-raising ability as they did back in 2004, where there simply was nothing like the Ram SRT-10. Chevy never put a Corvette ZR-1 engine in a Silverado. The short-cab, short-bed truck hauled up to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and had a top speed of 154 mph. The truck was given a sport suspension, rear wing, and heavily bolstered front seats. Together with a quad-cab version that was also provided, the audacity lasted for three years, with 10,143 units sold. 5. 2020 Challenger SRT Super Stock By 2020, Dodge had managed to squeeze another 10 horsepower out of its 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat Redeye V8 for a total of 807. Returning to its Super Stock efforts in the 60s, Dodge outfitted this as a drag-race special with lightweight wheels, drag radial tires, a shorter final-drive ratio, and a drag-spec suspension with adaptive dampers. This brought the performance numbers down to 3.25 seconds for 0 to 60 and a standing quarter mile of 10.5 seconds. 4. 1969 Charger Daytona Most Dodges have made these lists because of what’s under their hood and their focus on drag racing. This car is clearly best known for how it looks, and its purpose was purely aimed at NASCAR. In 1968, Dodge tried to rule NASCAR with the homologation Charger 500, which featured subtle aerodynamic changes. Appearance-wise, the 500 actually appeared tamer than the production car, and it still didn’t knock the slippery Ford Torino off the NASCAR pedestal. Getting serious, Dodge added the sloping nose and sky-high wing to the 1969 Charger and made 500 of them for the street to get it on the track. Most production models were powered by the 440 cubic inch magnum while just 70 had the 426 Hemi. It and the similar Plymouth Superbird were the first overtly aero-focused models in the series. Oddly, the height of the wing was not dictated by aerodynamics but rather so the trunk lid could be raised on the production model. Bobby Issac drove his Daytona to a season record that stands to this day with 19 pole positions and 17 wins. 3. 2018 Challenger SRT Demon One could argue that the Hellcat and all hyper Challengers that followed were drag-race specials, but the SRT Demon was even more so. Prior to the Supers Stock, the SRT Demon’s 6.2-liter V8 was topped with a 2.7-liter supercharger which produced 808 horsepower, or 840, with 100+ octane fuel. Drag-race-focused features included a trans brake, a Drag Mode suspension setup, and a liquid-to-air intercooler. It hit 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and went on to the quarter mile in 9.68 seconds. It was the fastest accelerating vehicle ever produced, and it only lasted one year, of which 3,300 units were produced. 2. 2010 Viper ACR-X A decade and a half prior to the Supercharged Hellcat, Redeye, and Demon Challengers, Dodge’s performance centered on the big displacement, normally aspirated Viper. The racing focus was not on the dragstrip but on sportscar and endurance racing, where you saw the Viper on the podiums of LeMans, Daytona, Spa, and others with over 100 major wins. By 2010, the Viper had been on the market for 20 years, was in its fourth generation, and looked to be ending its production. Which it did for three years before having another go for four years after 2013, The ACR-X was a production vehicle but for the track only. Free of street-legal restrictions, the 8.4-liter V10 produced an additional 40 horses for a total of 640 with torque up 45 foot-pounds to 605. It was fitted with a roll cage, fuel cell, a single racing seat with harness, and 18-inch front / 19-inch rear Michelin slicks. It weighed 160 pounds less than the street-legal ACR, while the rear wing, front dive planes, and other aerodynamic enhancements created 1100 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. It set no fewer than 13 lap records around the world and lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:03 minutes. 1. 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 Isn’t it nice that the number one greatest Dodge is one that is for sale right now? It’s Dodge’s final send-off to the nameplate that had four years in its original form and came back 34 years later for another 15. It is also the send-off for gas-powered muscle cars in general, with both the Challenger and Charger leaving after 2023 with to be replaced by various electric and electrified vehicles in the years to come. This last in a series of “Last Call” Challenger and Chargers has a feeling of inevitability as its horsepower finally breaks four figures. At least with E85 ethanol, where its supercharged V8 is rated at 1025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque. Fuel it with premium from your corner station, it will produce 900 hp. That gets you to 60 in a 2G body-pressing 1.66 seconds and will trip the quarter mile in an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds. And yet it’s street legal. Perhaps, EV technology will open a whole new world of Dodge outrageousness, but for a company that has spent much of its R&D building absurdly overpowered vehicles and selling them to people, the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the greatest Dodge ever sold.

Dodge and Ram Dominate J.D. Power APEAL Mass-market Brand Rankings for Fifth Straight Year

Dodge again finished first in the 2023 annual J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study among mass-market (non-luxury) brands. This marks the fourth straight year Dodge has taken first place in the study. Dodge became the only brand to earn a first-place ranking for three consecutive years in 2022, and winning a fourth consecutive year strengthens that record. Just behind, Stellantis sibling Ram took second place, also for the fourth consecutive year. Doing things Right Year After Year The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Jailbreak models unlock color-combination ordering restrictions and adds new factory-custom options to deliver enthusiasts the freedom to build their own “one-of-one” Dodge performance vehicle. Bolstering the victory even further is that Dodge also took first place among mass-market brands in this year’s J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). This makes Dodge the only domestic brand to achieve both top positions in the same year. Unlike the IQS study, which basically charts “things gone wrong”, the APEAL study surveys what people like and don’t like about their vehicles’ performance, design, and operation. Because their positions were switched four years ago, this marks the fifth consecutive year Dodge and Ram have taken the top two positions in the study. Dodge and Ram’s continual top-ranking positions show that people who purchased Dodge and Ram models really like their vehicles, mathematically better than any other non-luxury brand. “This outcome demonstrates that the pursuit of superior customer experience is firmly entrenched in our culture,” says Bill Kendell, who assumed leadership of Stellantis North America’s customer experience organization on July 1. “Our motto is, ‘Every Customer Counts; Every Journey Matters.’ “These are more than just words to us,” Kendell adds. “ At Stellantis, customer experience is a vocation. Now we have to take this data and really dive deep.” Bucking the Industry Trend Also noteworthy is that Dodge and Ram improved upon their 2022 APEAL scores by five and 10 points respectively, while scores for the industry as a whole declined. Unsurprisingly, each brand had a model that ranked high in their segment. The 2023 Dodge Challenger, the brand’s second best-selling model, ranked first in the Midsize Sporty segment. Ram’s 2023 best seller, the Ram 1500, ranks second among Large Light-Duty Pickups. " Dodge didn't win this award, we accepted it on behalf of the Brotherhood,” says Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand and Ram brand CEO - Stellantis. “ We have listened and learned from them. Those lessons will inform our product development as we redefine American muscle for the next era.” That next era comes soon. Dodge is saying goodbye to its Challenger and Charger muscle cars this year, but also recently launched the 2024 Hornet crossover, which claims the highest standard power in its class and includes a plug-in hybrid version - Dodge’s first. For its part, Ram will be launching two fully-electric vehicles in the form of the Ram Promaster electric van and the Ram 1500 REV full-size light-duty pickup. As mentioned, Dodge’s and Ram's customers are very happy with their purchases. If you would like to be one of those happy customers, pay a visit to Benna Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and take a close look at the models from both brands.
