Stellantis To Build a Lithium-Ion Battery Plant
This exciting venture comes in 2025. There will be 1,400 new jobs in Kokomo, Indiana, the U.S., and $2.5 billion in investment money. The execution of the idea begins in 2025 with an initial production capacity of 23 gigawatts hours (GWh). They aim to increase to 33GWh in the few years following its start date, which has yet to be released.
Over time the investment could increase to $3.1 billion gradually. The facility will supply battery modules for various vehicle productions. The plant for the EVs to be built starts construction before the end of this year (2022). If everything goes as planned, the projection will launch during the first quarter of 2025.
In the other half of this partnership, Samsung SDI will do what it knows best. The cutting-edge technology to produce EV battery cells and modules is known as the new brand, “PRiMX.” Samsung introduced the brand at the CES 2022 convention, focusing on superior battery technology.
