When they name an SUV of The Year, it is not without some serious testing. It has to pass the test over rough terrain and other maneuvers that put mere SUVs to shame.

The judges at Four Wheeler magazine evaluated new SUVs during a full week of testing, including ramp travel index (RTI) testing, track testing and on- and off-road evaluation to determine the Wrangler Rubicon 392 as 2022 SUV of the Year. Further evaluations included suspension articulation; track testing, 0-60 and quarter-mile acceleration times, and 60-0 braking distance; and on- and off-road evaluation in the mountains and deserts of Southern California and Nevada.
Vehicles are subjected to a variety of off-road conditions, including sand, rocky trails, loose-surface trails, rutted backroads and loose dirt hill climbs. Night driving was also integrated into the competition to gauge the performance of each vehicle’s lighting equipment.
One reason Four Wheeler named the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 their winner is because it is the quickest and most powerful Wrangler yet. The Rubicon 392 will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. All of this from a 6.4-liter V-8 engine rated at 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

With a Ramp Travel Index of 730, suspension articulation is at a maximum as it runs over rocks and handles the difficult and ever-changing road conditions in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. All of this while riding on 33-inch tires and 17-inch beadlock aluminum wheels.
