A year ago, Motor Trend magazine awarded its Truck of The Year to the new Ram 1500. The most advanced and engineered half-ton pickup truck showed its mettle as it leads the segment with many innovations, such as fully independent suspension, available automatic four-corner air suspension, and the new 12-inch UConnect infotainment system.
This year saw the arrival of a new and improved Ram Heavy Duty Pickup truck. The innovations continue with more torque for the Cummins diesel engine on the 3500, as well as the addition of the UConnect 12-inch infotainment system.
It came as no surprise that Motor Trend would award their Truck of The Year to the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup lineup.
In awarding the Truck of The Year to the Ram 2500 and 3500, Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh said that they are “engineered for work and play…[our trucks] reward true truckers with unflappable powertrains, sumptuous, high-tech interiors and a range of thoughtful utility features.”
This makes it two years in a row for Ram to win one of the most prestigious awards in the business. In the ten-year history of the Ram Brand, this is our fifth award from Motor Trend.

Car and Driver magazine does not believe in giving one award every year. They give out ten for their 10Best list. Over the years, they recognize the reality of the automotive world, as they now include trucks and SUVs to their prestigious list.
Lucky for us at Superior Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, the editors at Car and Driver added the Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator to their 10Best Cars and Trucks for 2020 list.
The magazine evaluates each contender in comparison to its peers using a 100-point scale. Each score is based on the following categories: Intended Purpose, Value, and Vehicle Operation.
This is the second consecutive year that the Ram 1500 was named on the 10Best list in the full-size pickup category. Its advanced engineering and technology, the editors of Car and Driver cited that Ram created it by “envisioning the light-duty pickup as a luxurious yet utilitarian carrier of families, fertilizer, and dreams.” Ram accomplished this by offering a fully independent suspension, the availability of four-corner automatic air suspension, a 12-inch UConnect infotainment screen and the addition of eTorque to its standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, along the return of the EcoDiesel to the Ram 1500 lineup.
The new Jeep Gladiator was named to the list in the mid-size pickup category in its first model year. Car and Driver described the Gladiator as a “a convertible pickup wagon dreamed up in the vein of an 83-function Swiss Army knife for the road.” Still, the Gladiator offers the most towing and payload capacity in its class. Plus, the EcoDiesel is coming soon, which will give the Gladiator the most torque among mid-size pickup trucks.
Twin Ports vehicle owners always love a winner. Contact us at Superior Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to bring one home today!

The EcoDiesel Returns On The Ram 1500
The EcoDiesel is back!
For 2020, you can get your Ram 1500 with the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine. This engine offers 480 pound-feet of torque – the highest torque of any power plant in its class! That translates into true pulling power for higher payload and towing capacities, while achieving improved fuel economy.
Having the EcoDiesel under the hood means maximum capability. With the EcoDiesel, you can tow up to 12,560 pounds.
It is also one of the most efficient engines in its class. A 4X2 Ram 1500 with the EcoDiesel engine can achieve up to 32 MPG on the highway. Four-wheel drive models can achieve up to 29 MPG on the highway, as well. In fact, an EcoDiesel with the extended fuel tank can give you a range over 1,000 miles. This is highest among all pickup trucks!
The Ram 1500 is already one of best engineered pickup trucks sold today. Class-exclusive air suspension enhances fuel economy, improves ride control, off-road capability, ease of entry and exit, cargo-loading effort, and features automatic load leveling.
Pricing for a 2020 Ram 1500 with the EcoDiesel engine starts at $36,890. It is available on all trim levels, including the Rebel. The combination of the Rebel trim with an EcoDiesel makes turns this truck into an off-road beast!

Celebrating Ten Years of Ram Trucks
Ten years ago, an announcement was made at a meeting at our headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The meeting was held to introduce the first five-year plan for a combined company now known as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
This single announcement would change not only the company, but the entire truck and commercial vehicle business.
On that day, the Ram Trucks brand was born.
This was our way to distinguish our exceptional lineup of trucks and vans from the other brands in the company. Ram embodied a personality that was reflected in our vehicles. Our trucks and vans work hard like you do. Our vehicles also play hard, too.
You can see our trucks and vans along the shores of Lake Michigan, at job sites all over the Twin Ports area, headed towards the Boundary Waters or the Upper Peninsula towing a boat or a couple of ATVs. If you head down to The Cities, you might be surrounded by Ram trucks and vans at a Vikings tailgate.
The result has been extraordinary. We earned many accolades in our time. We also won customers with the way our trucks drove, the innovations we engineered into each of our vehicles. We have helped your business, your weekends, and your commute be the best above everyone else.
Now, we have the hottest lineup of vehicles in the land. Our Ram 1500 is the best engineered pickup truck in its class. Our Ram Heavy Duty pickups just won MotorTrend’s Truck of The Year – making Ram back-to-back winners of this award! The Ram 1500 is on Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars and Trucks list. And, just announced recently, Green Car Journal named the Ram 1500 their Green Truck of The Year.
The Ram brand is just a part of a longer legacy of trucks and vans sold by our company. These past ten years have catapulted our trucks and vans to new heights. Ram is leaving a legacy of its own for future vehicles to come from our brand.
Celebrate Ram Trucks’ tenth anniversary by taking one for a test drive at Superior Jeep-Ram. Contact us to become a part of the growing family of owners of the hottest vehicle brand in America.
Jeep Returns To Duty With The Gladiator XMT
Jeep was born on the battlefield, fighting for world peace and freedom. These tough and nimble vehicles have served our armed forces since 1941.
In war and in peace, Jeep was there. And, now, it will return to duty.
In conjunction with AM General, the leading manufacturer of light tactical vehicles, Jeep will be back for service as the Gladiator Extreme Military-Grade Truck (XMT).
This is not the first time Jeep and AM General worked together on vehicles for our armed forces. In fact, both names have been linked since World War II putting Jeeps into service to transport troops, material, and for reconnaissance use.
The Jeep Gladiator was seen as the right fit for use in the armed forces due to its built-in capabilities – class-leading payload of 1,600 pounds and a towing capacity up to 7,650 pounds, tough body-on-frame construction, and standard four-wheel-drive system.
AM General will take the Jeep Gladiator and build upon its capabilities towards field readiness. They have identified a series of parts and accessories that will build upon the truck’s tough platform. These parts will include tactical communications and upfitting of military-grade parts for protection and security of the truck while in service.
The Gladiator XMT could be put to use as a reconnaissance vehicle, a troop carrier, a mobile communications base, and so forth.
Given the experience AM General had with the Humvee, the Jeep Gladiator is seen as a newer, lighter tactical vehicle for use with not only our own armed forces, but for other countries, as well. The vehicle has built-in capabilities that can tackle extreme terrain wherever it is put into service – from the deserts of the Middle East to the jungles of sub-Saharan Africa to the proving grounds of our armed forces back on home soil.
The Jeep Gladiator XMT will be sold in either gasoline or diesel versions for defense contracts here and worldwide.
The Jeep Gladiator is ready for duty right here on the homefront. Superior Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram welcomes our veterans and active duty members of our armed forces in the Twin Ports area and beyond to check out this capable pickup truck. Contact us to see one today!
Ram and Jeep Provide Great Ideas at SEMA
Every November in Las Vegas the annual Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show showcases the latest in vehicle parts and accessories for customers wanting more from their current ride. MOPAR is there every year showcasing our latest for our Jeep and Ram customers to customize their rides with thousands of options for optimal individualization.
How MOPAR presents their ideas at SEMA is through taking our current lineup and creating a rolling showcase of what’s possible to fit your lifestyle with your chosen vehicle.
This year, MOPAR presented two different concepts – a Ram 1500 and a Jeep Wrangler. Each one provided a canvas to showcase ideas on making the overlanding experience better in a MOPAR vehicle.
For example, MOPAR took a Ram 1500 Rebel and made it into the OTG (Off the Grid) Concept. Our most capable full-sized half-ton pickup truck can tackle the trails of Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula with its excellent suspension set-up and a choice of power – including the EcoDiesel engine – to get you where you want to go.
In the Ram 1500 Rebel OTG Concept, MOPAR added a two-inch lift kit, beadlock wheels and 35-inch Goodyear tires for greater grip on many surfaces. MOPAR did not stop there. They also added a front bumper with integrated winch, a larger grille with flow-through R-A-M badging and a functional snorkel air intake to improve off-road capability and performance. Front- and rear-wheel flares and step assist rock rails have been installed to protect the vehicle while traversing rough terrain. A concept rear bumper, adapted from the Ram 1500 Tradesman, improves the departure angle of the truck by relocating the exhaust.
Helped by Ram’s unique multifunction tailgate with 60/40 split swing-away doors, the bed of the truck has been accessorized to offer versatile utility for extended adventures.
A bed rack system fits atop the truck bed, carrying a collapsible rooftop tent, which can be accessed via a stowable ladder. Enhancing the overlanding experience, inside the truck bed there is a retractable battery-powered cooler and kitchen unit with a gas-powered stove and sink with an on-board water system. An added rack structure is mounted above the cab to provide additional storage space for tools and equipment.
A solar panel set, which can be deployed at any moment to generate electricity, and a backup power supply eliminates the need for a gas-powered generator, freeing cargo capacity. A concept hide-away bed step in the rear makes loading and unloading easier. The concept truck is also equipped with an on-board air compressor in the bed cargo area.
For vehicle recovery and extraction, the OTG is equipped with an integrated front bumper winch, traction mats attached to the rack system, and a high-lift jack for uneven ground mounted on the top of the cab. To make the dark campsite brighter while night camping, LED off-road driving lamps are mounted on the front bumper. Also, supplemental LED backup lamps have been incorporated into the rear bumper and task lighting has been attached to the rear rack system for nighttime campsite illumination.
While the Ram 1500 is already a great pickup truck for work and play, the parts department at Superior Jeep-Ram can help you take your Rebel to the next level with available MOPAR accessories as listed above. Our service department can help you put these on to your Ram 1500 Rebel, as well.
MOPAR did not stop with just the Ram 1500 Rebel. They added more than 200 accessories for the Jeep Wrangler. MOPAR showed off a concept based on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon accessorized with concept tube door mirrors and door skins. The vehicle also features a one-piece stamped steel front bumper with integrated fog lamps, tow hooks on the top and “D-ring” attachments at the bottom. The bumper is a Mopar production part and currently available to consumers. The vehicle is also equipped with a two-inch lift kit, Mopar cold-air intake and Mopar Warn winch kit to showcase some of the customization options that are only possible in the Jeep Wrangler.
The parts department at Superior Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is your source for MOPAR parts and accessories for your Ram or Jeep. If you’re ready to take your ride to the next level, contact us and we will make your dream come true!
Ram 1500 Earns Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS
The Ram 1500 has won many accolades for its design and capability, and it just earned another to add to its trophy case: the first full-size pickup ((EVER)just to emphasize the point?) earn Top Safety Pick+ for 2019 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The Top Safety Pick+ award for 2019 applies to 2020 Ram 1500 pickup models, as well as 2019 trucks produced after May 2019 when equipped with adaptive LED projector headlights that have high-beam assist and Ram’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, Forward Collision Mitigation.
In order to earn this award, a vehicle must undergo six crashworthiness evaluations from the IIHS, three of which simulate frontal impacts, the other three measure damage consistent with side impacts, rear impacts, and rollovers. The Ram 1500 recorded “good” in each of these tests, which is the highest possible rating.
The Forward Collision Mitigation in the Ram 1500 earned a rating of “superior” from the IIHS as well. This optional feature has sensor-fusion technology that blends radar detection and camera capability to determine an imminent impact. If it does detect a potential impact, the system warns the driver to take action. If the driver does not act on the warning in a timely manner, the system may activate the vehicle’s brakes if the collision risk remains.
Unique to the Forward Collision Mitigation on the Ram 1500 that helped earn the Top Safety Pick+ award is its use of an Integrated Radar Camera Module (IRCM). This feature consolidates the radar and camera components behind the rearview mirror, which keeps important technology out of harm’s way in case of a collision, as well as simply the interface altogether.
Additionally, the Ram 1500’s LED projector headlamps with high-beam assist earned the highest IIHS rating of “good.”
The Ram 1500 has been enjoying many months in the spotlight lately, from Motor Trend Truck of the Year to a place among Ward’s 10 Best Engines with its standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque, and the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ is just the latest.
