There is a choice of two engines on the Cherokee. Standard is the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir II four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This engine will get up to 31 MPG on the highway. An available 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 provides maximum power at 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque.

There is now turbocharged power available on the Cherokee. A new 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder can put out 270 horsepower with 295 lb-ft of torque. While powerful, the new turbo Cherokee can return up to 31 MPG on the highway. This engine is available on all models and packages except for the base Latitude. All three engines are available with a class-first nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Cherokee offers both front-wheel-drive (4×2) and four-wheel drive (4×4). There is a choice of four-wheel-drive systems, including the Selec-Terrain system. It can dial up the right traction settings for the conditions the Cherokee Trailhawk is put through. The Trailhawk also comes with Selec-Speed control, a rear-wheel lock button – part of Active Drive Lock — and 56:1 crawl ratio – both designed to ensure optimal traction and decent in every terrain and traction situation. The Cherokee has 8.7-inches of ground clearance, reaching as high as 18.9 inches at the approach angle.
